One Goal, One Step, One Session.

Going One Step further towards achieving your goals as a team Leader or as an entrepreneur doesn’t need to be a big challenge and can be easier than you might think.

Sometimes it is easy to forget what it actually is that got you where we are at right now in your business/job and/or personal life. Reflecting on how you achieved past successes can be really helpful here. As Maynard Webb, founder of Webb Investment Network mentions : Think pattern recognition again: Past success is the best predictor of future success. If someone has been successful over time and in different situations, it is very likely that they will find success again.”

However, sometimes the thoughts of all the things we still need to do, whether that is at goals at work or things being done at home can be quite overwhelming and we somehow don’t know where to start.

Often in those moments what we need is some inspiration. Perhaps it might help to share with you some of the tools that have worked for me to get me where I am as a business woman right now.

Find a place where you can sit quietly and set your motivation for finding a solution to get One Step closer to your goals.

After a few minutes, I advise you to reflect on past similar successes and you might find that they key to your solution lies just there.

When I work with clients towards achieving their targets/plans, we do not have to reinvent the wheel every time. What we do instead is:

  • Figure out first what is the first and utmost important short-term task/goal that needs to be achieved.
  • Find out when it needs to be achieved for.
  • Explore if they have achieved previous similar goals/targets.
  • Find out how they managed to achieve them.
  • Find out whose input was helpful.
  • Figure out what was helpful.
  • Point out how that helped the process.

When we have all those facts together, the next step is to:

  • To find out and take note of what are you already doing to get to your goal.
  • To focus on the first task that will take you closer to that goal.

Explore the steps you will make from here by asking yourself these questions:

  • “From a scale from 1-10 (1 being nothing has happened to get to the goal/task, 10 being that the goal/task has been reached), where am I/ are we now?”
  • “What needs to happen for me/us to get up 1 higher on the scale?”
  • “What is the first step that I/we can make to get there?”
  • “Who and/or what else is going to be able to help with this?
  • How would I be presenting if I already had reached the goal/target?
  • Who would notice?
  • When was the last time I felt that way?
  • What was I doing differently?
  • What could I do that makes me feel a bit closer to feeling like I already will have reached my goal?

After asking yourself these questions write down what you found helpful doing this process and check in with yourself when it would be a good time to do this again. When you do decide to do the practice again, begin from the top.

Susan Wojcicki (CEO of YouTube) said on Wednesday at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit: “A lot about scaling is getting the right people in place. You’re only as good as your team is, your job is to hire the experts, give them the right direction and resources, and set the right priorities.” I agree and find that this elicits the importance of teamwork by finding out about which strengths and skills team members have that can add to the creative pool at large. If you do not work as a team, perhaps you can find out about how others can help you to achieve your goal/task , which might alleviate some of the feelings of being swamped with work.
